New Brain Injury Rehab Center Opens In Milwaukee

A new brain injury and rehab center called the Nexday Brain Injury Rehab Center opened on June 11 th , courtesy of Grace Healthcare and the Milwaukee Center for Independence.  The brand new rehab center is located in the Wellspring of Milwaukee, which is a rehabilitation facility and nursing home on Fond Du Lac Avenue.

The rehab center will operate independently from the nursing home and will have eight private rooms and five semi-private rooms, for a total of 18 beds for patients that are recovering from brain injuries.

The program is only one of three that is certified by the state of Wisconsin as a post-acute traumatic brain injury unit.  It will primarily serve to help patients that have been discharged from the hospital but still need help and care before returning home.

“About 6,000 people in Wisconsin sustain a traumatic brain injury each year, and every person recovering from traumatic brain injury has individual needs and concerns,” said Dr. Heidi Sykora, MCFI vice president of clinical quality services. “For 75 years, MCFI has understood the importance of serving each person as an individual and prescribing services to the client’s particular needs and personal goals.” (BizTimes.com, 2014)

The center’s staff will include medical experts such as doctors, rehabilitation nurses, therapists, social workers, nurses, vocational rehabilitation and employment therapists.  The staff will provide clinical services, therapies and recreational services that will aid in enhancing functional abilities and help the patients sustain their improvements as they move back into their home environment.
