Two Dead, Five Injured in Two Grant County Crashes
Two people have died and two others were injured in a crash in Grant County last weekend, according to a police report.
The incident occurred in Smelser Township just before 1 a.m. Sunday, according to media reports.

The initial investigation showed that 61-year-old Robert McCabe from Cuba City was driving southbound on Hwy 80/81. An unidentified Hispanic man was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty eastbound on Hwy 81 with two passengers. One of the passengers has been identified as Manuel Perez. Police have not yet released the name of the other person or the driver yet.
The crash was reported at about 12:45 a.m., between Platteville and Cuba City.
Officials have said they believe the Jeep driver didn’t stop at a stop sign and t-boned McCabe’s Chrysler van on the driver’s side.
McCabe and one of the unidentified men were pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County Coroner’s Office. The two other men were airlifted to UW Hospital with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation pending reconstruction reports and as deputies continue to collect statements and identify the two other men involved.
Facebook posts from the sheriff’s department indicate the roadway was shut down for nearly six hours following the wreck.
Just weeks ago two people were flown to the hospital from the scene of an accident in Grant County, according to 21Alive.
On April 29, a two-car crash occurred about 3:25 p.m. just south of Harreld Road in Marion.
Police say Pamela Miller, 19, of Claypool, was driving a Volkswagen Beetle southbound on SR 15 near Harreld Road.
The Beetle crossed the center line to pass a line of traffic and hit a northbound Cadillac head-on.
Lisa Caley, 52, of Wabash, was driving the Cadillac, according to the article. Miller and Caley were flown from the scene to a Fort Wayne hospital with internal injuries.
Megan Cavins, 36, was a passenger in the Cadillac. She was taken to a Marion hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
