A teenager was killed last Saturday after a pickup truck crashed into the go-cart the child was driving.
According to various media reports, the incident took place Sept. 17 about 3:07 p.m. on County Highway B in the Town of Canton, Wis.

The young man, who was 13-years-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
“As emergency responders arrived it was discovered the accident was within Buffalo County. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office says a 13-year-old male was operating a go-cart type vehicle on a private driveway then drove onto the eastbound lane of Highway B,” an article published on the WEAU website reads. “As the go-cart entered the highway, an eastbound 2001 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 truck, driven by a 16-year-old male hit the go-cart.”
The 13-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene and the 16-year-old driver of the truck was not injured in the crash , according to reports. The names of the teenagers are being withheld at this time.
“Assisting at the scene of the crash was the Durand Police and Fire departments, Durand Ambulance, Pepin County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol,” WEAU reports.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, motorized vehicles are not designed for operation on roadways. Examples of motorized vehicles include scooters, lawn tractors, all- terrain vehicles, go-carts, mini-bikes and other off-road motor vehicles. Therefore, go-carts are not allowed on public roads.
A go-cart is a small four-wheeled vehicle. Go-carts come in all shapes and forms, from motorless models to high-powered racing machine, some, like Superkarts are able to beat racing cars or motorcycles on long circuits.
Gravity racers, usually referred to as Soap Box Derby carts, are the simplest type of go-carts. They are propelled by gravity, with some races taking place down a single hill.
