A Green Bay, Wisconsin man was killed last Friday afternoon due to complications from injuries he sustained in a three-vehicle crash in Marinetta County, Wisconsin.

According to an article by The Mining Journal, the man who died was 81-year-old Carl J. Bernetzke.

Bernetzke was extricated from his four-door sedan following the collision, but reportedly died from head injuries he sustained as a result of the crash, while he was on the way to the hospital.

“Bernetzke was traveling south on U.S. 141 near Jossart Road in Beecher, Wisconsin, when he was struck by a northbound blue pickup truck that had crossed the centerline,” the article reads. “The driver of the pickup truck, Leroy D. Poglud, 67, of Goodman, Wisconsin, was treated for his injuries at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, police said.”

Poglud’s truck also struck another vehicle, a pickup truck, that was southbound. Authorities said that 48-year-old Donald E. Britten Jr., of Langlade, Wisconsin was driving the pickup truck at the time of the collision. Britten was not injured as a result of the crash.

“Police said the accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and coroner. Assisting at the scene were the Pembine rescue and fire departments, Amberg Fire Department, Beacon Ambulance and the Marinette County deputy coroner.”

Police told various media outlets that this is the first traffic fatality of 2017 in Marinette County.
