A woman who was involved in a deadly crash with her husband on Highway 30 on Feb. 12 has died. Her husband, Kirk U’Ren, a 37-year-old Cottage Grove man was also killed as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.

According to an article published Feb. 27 by the Wisconsin State Journal, the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the woman’s death last Sunday, while Madison police announced tentative charges against the driver of the vehicle being blamed for the crash.

“Jenni Steiner, 34, was riding in an SUV driven by her husband, Kirk U’Ren, when an oncoming car entered the median, went airborne and landed on the couple’s vehicle,” the article reads. “She died Saturday morning, said her former supervisor, Vicki Hellenbrand. Her husband died at the crash scene.”

The crash happened near the Fair Oaks Avenue exit. A Madison police investigator said speed appears to have been a factor in the crash.

Friends and family spoke out about the couple’s death, saying they’re still in shock that it occurred. The husband and wife were on their way to a UW men’s basketball game when the crash happened.

Steiner was a CPA, auditor, and senior manager in Baker Tilly’s state and local government group. U’Ren worked as a sales supervisor at Pepsi-Cola of Madison. The couple has 1-year-old twin sons.

Sunday night the Madison police released a statement about the crash saying that Brandon Ballweg, 25, of the town of Dunn has been tentatively charged with two counts of second-degree reckless homicide, three counts of second degree recklessly endangering safety and one count of reckless driving causing injury, the article reads.

Ballweg has been held at the Dane County Jail since Feb. 13.
