One dead, three injured in head-on crash

At least one person is dead and three others injured following a two-vehicle crash west of Waupun.

According to various media reports, the crash happened last Monday evening.

“At 5:46 p.m. Monday, the Fond du Lac County Dispatch Center received a report of a head-on collision on County Highway AW just east of Oak Grove Road, west of Waupun in the town of Alto,” an article by the Fond du Lac Reporter reads. “According to Captain Ryan Waldschmidt of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, a car driving east on County Highway AW crossed the center line and collided head on with a westbound car.”

A passenger in the westbound vehicle, a 23-year-old Waupun man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people in that vehicle, a 17-year-old Waupun teen and a 52-year-old Waupun woman, were reportedly taken to Waupun Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

“The lone occupant of the eastbound car, a 57-year-old Waupun man, was taken to the Aurora Medical Center in Summit by a Flight For Life helicopter to treat his serious injuries,” the article reads. “While the occupant of the eastbound vehicle was wearing a seat belt, the 23-year-old deceased man was not. It is undetermined if the two surviving occupants of the westbound vehicle were wearing seat belts, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.”

The Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Department were investigating the scene along with assistance from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department, the Waupun Police Department, Waupun and Alto Fire Departments, an ambulance from Lifestar in Waupun and Fox Lake EMS.

According to the article, The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation and names had not been released as of Tuesday pending notification of the victim’s family.

The article does not mention whether or not charges are expected in connection to the crash.
